Accounting Major
                                          Department of Business Administration

The major in accounting prepares students for professional careers in a wide variety of accounting related positions. This major has two tracks: General Accounting and Professional Accounting.  Each of the accounting specializations requires completion of a 14 course Accounting core.  Two additional courses beyond the core provide the emphasis for the specialization in Public Accounting and in Managerial Accounting.  Click here for a printable Accounting major worksheet.

General Accounting
    - basis for a wide variety of business and accounting positions

Professional Accounting
    - basis for professional designation of Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant

• Public Accounting
  This specialization is recommended for positions with CPA firms. It relates to the Certified Public Accountant professional designation and focuses on external reporting. Coursework includes topics emphasized on the CPA exam. By the year 2006, a 5-year degree (150 hours) will be required to become a licensed CPA. In response to this change, Augsburg's Accounting program now offers a 5-year Accounting-MAL program which provides students with both a BA in Accounting and a Masters in Arts and Leadership.  Click here for information on the *NEW* program.
  
• Managerial Accounting
  This specialization is recommended for positions with large or rapidly growing companies. It relates to the Certified Management Accountant professional designation and focuses on internal reporting. Coursework includes topics emphasized on the CMA exam.
